B’nai Brith: First Campus Victory in Canada

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Toronto, April 12, 2013 — B’nai Brith Canada extends its congratulations to the students at University of Manitoba that spearheaded last night’s University of Manitoba Students Union (UMSU) resolution that stripped Students Against Israel Apartheid (SAIA) of its status as a student group and banned Israel Apartheid Week (IAW) from UMSU property.

Frank Dimant, CEO B’nai Brith Canada commented, “This is a precedent setting move that should be emulated by students on every campus where IAW events take place. What started as a week of events of harassment and discrimination has turned into events throughout the year that have created poisoned environments for pro-Israel and democracy loving students. The students here that spearheaded this initiative serve as role models for what can be done to counter such activities including IAW and divestment campaigns infecting the democratic process at universities in Canada and across North America.

“We continue to offer our services and support to students on campus through our regional and national offices and B’nai Brith on Campus.”
